SKONDSANGWANN

The Event

Saturday 7th April 2001 the curtain came up on this original play by Fr. John Abela ofm. The venue was the theatre at Luqa and it was produced by "Skene", the residential theatre group. Fr. Abela's script came after a six year gap in his stage writing. He is in fact the author of well known plays like "Grajjietna", "Hati?", "Tamietna", "Mislub f'Hagar Qim", "L-Imsikket"... All these plays have been performed at the Catholic Institute by MASK way back in the eighties and nineties. For the past six years Fr. Abela has been working with a number of young theatre enthusiasts at Luqa and this is the occasion for which they have risen to present this challenging production. One of the characteristics of Fr. Abela's writings has always been his ability in presenting the same event seen from a different angle. And this new script did build on his past experience in this regard. We were taken back in time and space but keeping a keen eye on our present. St. John is the author of one of the Gospels but the play brings to live the confrontation between good and evil, darkness and light.... a characteristic of the fourth Gospel. Light, sound, costumes, choreography and a well designed set were the framework in which over forty young actors gave birth to this memorable production. We can be reached at [email protected]
